In-Person Personal Training for Women at Doherty’s Gym, Perth
By Samantha Hobley · Last updated 31 May 2026
If you’re done trying to figure it out on your own, this is what working with a real coach in a real gym looks like.
Key Takeaways
In-Person Training at Defined Bodies is one-on-one personal training for women in Perth, built around weight loss, strength, and the kind of consistency you’ve struggled to find alone. You get a custom training program built around your body, a full nutrition plan that fits your real life, and a coach in the room with you every week at Doherty’s Gym, watching your form, pushing your loads, and making sure you actually show up.
It’s the difference between thinking about it and actually doing it.
If It Hasn’t Stuck Before, It Wasn’t You
If you’ve started before and it slipped, that wasn’t a willpower problem. The apps, the classes, the plans that fall apart the first hard week were never built to survive a real, busy life. You did your bit. What was missing was someone making sure it kept going.
What You’re Hiring Isn’t a Gym Session. It’s a Coach.
Your training program, your nutrition plan, your check-ins, your app access, the voice in your ear when you’re standing in front of the fridge at 9pm. All of that runs every day of the month.
The weekly session is how we connect in person. It’s part of the program, not the whole product.
The coaching doesn’t stop when the session does. I’m here every step of the way.
Who This Program Is Built For
The woman who needs the appointment to actually show up. You’ve signed up for things before. You’ve downloaded the app, set the alarm, told your partner this is the week. And then Tuesday came and you didn’t go. The booked session changes that. Someone’s expecting you. There’s nowhere to hide.
The woman who’s done group fitness, Pilates, and YouTube workouts. You’ve put in real work for years. None of it got the weight off or changed your body the way you wanted because none of it had anyone watching your form, picking your loads, or adjusting the program when your body needed it.
The woman who’s never set foot in a real gym. Doherty’s is a proper gym, which can feel like a lot at the door. The reason it works is you’re not walking in alone. I’m right there with you, showing you the equipment, the layout, and the rhythm of the place. By month two you walk in knowing exactly where you’re going.
The woman who knows her body has changed. Hormones, sleep, perimenopause, postnatal, a decade of sitting at a desk, all of it. The program is built around what’s actually happening in your body now, not what worked in your twenties.
You Don’t Have to Be Ready First
You don’t need to lose a few kilos first. You don’t need to get fitter on your own before you walk in. You don’t need to already know what you’re doing. That’s the whole reason I’m here. You start where you are, and we build from there.
What’s Included
Weekly 60-minute one-on-one session at Doherty’s Gym. This is the anchor of your week. We work through your program together, I correct form in real time, and we adjust the session to whatever’s actually going on with your body that day.
A proper strength program, made for you, not a template. Real strength training that gets harder as you get stronger, designed to change your body, not just make you fitter. Shaped around what you need, what you can train through, and what you actually want to look and feel like.
A full nutrition plan with calorie and macro targets, meal guides, and recipes. Built around food you actually eat. Handles vegetarian, food intolerances, and cultural preferences. No 1200-calorie starvation. No banned food groups.
Weekly check-in by video or phone call. Whichever works for you. We walk through your week, your training, your nutrition, your sleep, your mood, and whatever else is moving. Then we adjust.
Ongoing message support throughout the week. Stuck on a lift, second-guessing a meal, having one of those mornings? Message me. You’ll hear back within a few hours.
Personalised app access. Your full program, your nutrition plan, and your progress all in one place, accessible whenever you need it.
How Training With Me Works
No mystery to it. Here’s how we start and how it runs.
- Free strategy session. We sit down and talk through where you’re at, what you’ve tried, and what you actually want to achieve. No pressure, no pitch.
- Movement and strength assessment. I watch how your body actually moves, so I can see what’s strong, what’s stuck, and what we need to work around.
- Your program gets built. I build your training and your nutrition plan from scratch, around your body, your goals, and your real life.
- Training starts. Your weekly session with me is locked in, and we have a separate check-in each week by video or phone to go through how everything’s tracking.
- We adjust as you go. Your body changes and your life changes, and the program changes with it. Nothing stays static.
What Makes This Format Work
This is the Coach Sammi Method, delivered in person every week at Doherty’s Gym. It’s how the women I work with finally lose weight, build real strength, and stay consistent.
You have a coach in the room when it actually matters. Form correction in real time. If your hip’s dropping on a single-leg deadlift, I see it and we fix it on the next rep. If today’s planned load is too much, we adjust mid-session. The program adapts to what’s actually happening in your body that week, not what was written down on Monday morning.
The booked session is the unmissable anchor of your week. You can promise yourself you’ll train. You’ve done that before. The difference here is that Tuesday at 5:45am is locked in, and someone is going to be there waiting for you. That alone changes everything. The work happens around the appointment, not in spite of it.
You learn how to actually use a real gym. Doherty’s has serious equipment and serious lifters. Walking in for the first time can feel like walking into someone else’s living room. By the end of the first month you know where the kettlebells live, you know which squat rack is yours, and you know the regulars by face. Doherty’s becomes your gym, not a stranger’s space you’re nervously borrowing.
There’s a decade behind every call I make while training my clients. Cert IV qualified with over ten years coaching women, and more than 50 women in Perth who’ve lost weight, built genuine strength, and started feeling like themselves again.

“Sam has been my coach since mid-2023 and she’s been such an integral part of my fitness journey... I’ve learnt so much about myself, my capabilities, nutrition and self care through her. 10/10 would recommend. She is really one of a kind 💜”

Commitment and Flexibility
Your spot is yours. Every week, your session time is locked in. That time belongs to you, whether you walk in for it or not. I block out the slot, the gym knows you’re coming, and your program is queued up for that session.
If something comes up, message me. I’m flexible on day and time within the week. If Tuesday doesn’t work, we’ll find another day that does. That flexibility is built in, on purpose.
A built-in safety valve. Sometimes a week genuinely falls apart. Kids get sick, work goes sideways, you’re rolling with a flu. For those weeks, you can carry one session forward. You’ve got two weeks to use it. Not a way to bank sessions indefinitely, because that doesn’t work for either of us, but a real safety valve for when life gets in the way.
You choose your billing. Weekly, fortnightly, or monthly. The amount is fixed either way. Pick whatever works for your cash flow. No usage tracking. No session pack expiry. No surprise top-ups. You know exactly what you’re paying and exactly what you’re getting.
About the Money
I’ll talk actual numbers at the strategy session, not here. But before you file this under “too expensive,” it’s worth being honest about what’s already leaving your account each month.
Whatever’s on your list, the Pilates or the yoga, the group fitness, the gimmicky “health” foods, the expensive supplements that didn’t work, maybe the injection you’ve been weighing up. For most women, it adds up to real money every month, spent on things that haven’t changed their body.
A good personal trainer should save you money, not just cost you. A big part of my job is telling you which of those things to stop buying, and building your meals around real food that works on a normal budget. For most women that replaces what wasn’t working rather than adding to it, and frees up more than they expected.
The question was never really whether you can afford a coach. It’s what the money you’re already spending is actually getting you.
Who This Isn’t Built For
I’d rather point you somewhere that fits than sell you something that won’t stick. Here’s where I’d point you instead.
If you’re not in Perth. This program is in-person at Doherty’s Gym. There’s no way to deliver the format without you being physically here. Online Coaching gives you the same program design, nutrition plan, and check-in support, from anywhere in Australia. If you’re regional WA and can come into Perth occasionally, the Hybrid Program is worth a look.
If your week-to-week schedule is genuinely unpredictable. If you don’t know on Sunday whether you’ll be available Tuesday, weekly appointments will frustrate both of us. The Hybrid Program gives you two in-person sessions a month at any time that works, with the rest of the program running online.
If you’re confident in the gym already and don’t need someone in the room. If you’ve been training for years, you know your way around the equipment, and what you actually want is expert program design plus accountability, the Online Coaching format is built for you. Same training program, same nutrition plan, same check-ins, just without the weekly in-person session.
This isn’t a sales pitch designed to upsell you. If a different program is the better fit, that’s the one I’ll recommend on the strategy session.

Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if I can’t make my session?
Just let me know. The first option is always rescheduling within the same week. I’m flexible on day and time. If that’s genuinely not possible, you can roll one session forward, up to two weeks. It’s a real safety valve for when life happens, not a way to bank sessions indefinitely.
Is the billing flexible?
Yes. You choose weekly, fortnightly, or monthly billing. The amount is fixed either way. No usage tracking, no expiring credits, no surprise charges.
What happens at the free strategy session?
We have an in-depth conversation about where you’re at, what you’ve tried, and what you actually want. Then we do a movement and strength assessment so I can see how your body is moving and where the gaps are. Then we talk through what training with me would look like for you specifically. No sales pressure. If it’s not the right fit, no hard feelings.
Is this the right fit for me?
The honest answer is: that’s exactly what the strategy session is for. If your week-to-week schedule is too unpredictable, or you’re not based in Perth, or you’re already confident enough in the gym to follow a program on your own, In-Person Training probably isn’t the strongest fit and I’ll tell you that. There’s a program for every fit. I’ll help you find the right one.
Will I be out of place at Doherty’s if I’m a complete beginner?
No. Most of my clients started as complete beginners. Doherty’s has plenty of women training there, including serious women lifters. By the end of your first month you’ll know several of them by face, you’ll know where the equipment is, and you’ll know the rhythm of the place. The first time always feels harder than it actually is.
What if I’ve got an injury or ongoing pain?
Most of the women I work with have something, a dodgy back, a knee, a hypermobile joint, pelvic floor stuff after kids, an old injury that never quite went away. You don’t have to get your body “fixed” before you start. The program is built around what’s actually going on, and it works alongside your physio, chiro, or osteo, not against them. If something genuinely needs clearing with a practitioner first, I’ll tell you. And often, the right strength training is part of how these things get better, not something you have to earn the right to do once you’re already sorted.
Is personal training worth it for women?
It depends on what you need. If you’ve trained for years, you know your way around a gym, and you’re happy with how your body’s responding, then probably not. Where it’s worth it is when you’ve put in the work and your body hasn’t changed, or you’re not sure what you’re doing is right, or you keep starting and stopping. A coach gives you a program built for your body, fixes your form before it turns into an injury, sorts your nutrition, and makes sure you actually show up. That’s usually the difference between spinning your wheels and getting somewhere. If you’re not sure, that’s exactly what the free strategy session is for.
Do I need a personal trainer to lose weight?
No. Plenty of women lose weight without one. The problem is how many lose it and put it straight back on, because the plan was something they could never stick to, or it left them weaker, or it was never built around their actual life. What I do is build weight loss around training that makes you stronger and eating you can genuinely live with, so what comes off stays off. You don’t need a personal trainer to lose weight. You might need one to lose it in a way that lasts. That’s the honest answer, and it’s what we’d talk through at the strategy session.
What Actually Changes
A few months in, you walk into Doherty’s knowing exactly where you’re going. You load your own bar. Your form is something you’ve been drilled on, not something you’re guessing at.
The scale moves. But that’s not the part that surprises most women. You sleep through the night. You stop avoiding photos. You put on the thing you’d written off and don’t spend ten minutes checking your arms in the mirror. For the first time in a while, you start feeling like yourself again.
That’s the part I’m actually in this for.
Ready to Train?
Ready to be the woman who actually shows up for herself?
The first strategy session is free. We talk about where you’re at, where you want to go, and whether In-Person Training is the right fit. No commitment. No hard sell. If it’s not the right program, I’ll tell you which one is.
Twelve months from now is coming either way. The question is whether you’ve started or you’re still wondering.
